The Lock Ring secures the gripper lip and actuator to the Mounting Rig. As the large ring is turned into place it pushes the lip into cavities on the outside of the rig, while holding the actuator in place on the inside. It is designed to be handled without any tools and to give a clear mechanical feedback when assembled correctly.
